Stunning. Amazing. Astonishing. That's what the Maldives are. Imagine unforgettable romantic dinners under the stars while swaying palm trees whisper softly. Picture thrilling scuba diving adventures for both beginner, advanced and highly experienced divers that let you encounter dolphins, turtles, moray eels, whale sharks, giant manta rays, napoleon wrasse and millions of other colourful fish. Charter your own traditional sailing dhoni or catch tuna, sailfish, wahoo and barracuda on a big game fishing tour. Participate in parasailing, wakeboarding, waterskiing, guided snorkelling trips to breath-taking coral reefs, kayaking, windsurfing and even kitesurfing or simply relax and enjoy delightful cuisine prepared on a white beach shaded by coconut trees surrounded by azure waters. Travel to this destination beyond comparison and you're going to have your dreams transformed into reality.

The Maldives archipelago consists of a chain of almost 1200 awe-inspiring coral islands, grouped into 26 atolls, located south of India and south-west of Sri Lanka, in the Indian Ocean. Of those islands, 80 to 90 have one or more resorts and hotels and roughly 200 islands are inhabited. According to Wikipedia, the name Maldives may derive from Maale Dhivehi Raajje which means The Island Kingdom.

The Maldives archipelago was long a sultanate, first under Dutch and then under British protection. It became a republic in 1968, three years after independence. Although The Island Kingdom happens to be the world's flattest and Asia's smallest country in terms of population, the Republic of Maldives has been and continues to be one of the most attractive, beautiful and fascinating holiday destinations you can think of.
